Red markings on bright green, flat pods make this a colourful bean to grow. The red markings are unfortunately lost with cooking. A dual purpose bean for use as both green pod or dry bean. Excellent flavour used fresh or frozen. Highly ornamental plants.

French beans dislike wind and cold and a sudden frost will kill them so grow in a warm and sunny sheltered spot and plant out in June. They grow best in a fertile soil with plenty of organic matter dug in, this should be neutral to slightly acidic with a pH of 5.5-7.
Sow 5cm (2″) deep.
Plant 30cm (12″) apart.
Space rows 45cm (18″) apart.
