A traditional green oakleaf selection originating in Italy. Deeply indented and thick leaves in a compact format, and with good texture. Strong lettuce flavour. Pick the abundant foliage when young.
Sow thinly in situ. Harvest the baby leaves when large enough to cut approximately 4-8 weeks later.
Keep seedlings weed free and well-watered. When leaves are of an appetising size, use scissors to snip off a few from each plant at 2.5cm (1in) from the base. Avoid damaging the central growing point of the plant and allow the remaining leaves to grow on. Water regularly to help support the production of new leaves.
Sow 1cm (1/2″) deep
15cm (6″) between rows
Thin out to 2-5cm (1-2″)
Can be broadcast in containers.
